Advanced Steward Training

Local 535 will hold a two and a half day Advanced Steward Training Program beginning at 5pm, Friday, April 30 and ending Sunday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Kellogg West Conference and Lodge Center in Pomona. Participation is limited to 40 people.

Program goals are as follows:

1. Create a larger pool of stewards better able to effectively deal with all level of grievances and discipline through organizing and New Strength and Unity (NSUP).

2. Increase effectiveness in problem solving with members and management around workplace issues.

Criteria for participation in this program are as follows:

	Commitment to New Strength and Unity (NSUP).
	Completion of Basic and Intermediate Steward Training Programs in the last 18 months.
	First time attending an Advanced Steward Training.
	Ability to competently handle lower step grievances and grievance writing.
	Commitment of participation to handle more problem solving responsibility by organizing members to handle issues.
	Willingness of participant to work with his or her staff person in a one-on-one mentor relationship.
	Signature of Chapter President confirming the person meets the above criteria.
	Signature of Field representative confirming the person meets the above criteria.
	Return completed recommendation and registration form by Tuesday, March 23, 2004.

Because of limited space and the large numbers of chapters, there may be room for only one or two participants per chapter, however, each chapter may submit more stewards for consideration.
