MPAC 2003

Member Political Action Conference 2003 Update

MPAC 2003 logo.

Local 535 sent 13 members to Washington D.C. to participate in the Member Political Action Conference. SEIU's 2003 Member Political Action Conference brought together more than 1,500 SEIU activists from across the United States to begin the critical task of igniting member activism for the 2004 elections.

Connecting with Presidential Candidates

  • Members met eight out of nine presidential candidates. Members discuss plans for the day.Small groups of 30 people meet with each candidate for 30 minutes in a more personal session before the presentations to the full conference. We had three members who answered the questionnaire correctly and were chosen for this privilege.
  • Local 535 members learned what needs to be done  to make a critical difference in 2004!

  • Lobby day issues included the need to keep overtime pay, Medicaid funding, TANF reauthorization and the Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill including child welfare funding.
  • Local 535 again showed its leadership qualities in that 6 of our team were lobby team leaders and one was an issues trainer.
